  1.                PC SUBLIMINAL MESSAGES  (version 2.1)

  4. This program is designed to flash helpful subliminal messages on
  5. your computer screen while running other programs.  Subliminal
  6. messages is a recent technique used to effortlessly change your
  7. behavior.  This technique has been used to reduce stress,
  8. improve self-confidence, lose weight, stop smoking, and develop
  9. enthusiasm.  Any message of your choosing will be flashed on
  10. your computer screen at a rate of up to 7200 times an hour while
  11. running word processors, spreadsheets, and language compilers.
  12.  
  13. The first known application of this technique was in motion
  14. pictures when messages suggesting eating popcorn was flashed on
  15. the movie screen along with the picture.  The subconscious mind
  16. of people in the audience picked up the message and the theater
  17. recorded an increase in popcorn sales.  Now you can use the same
  18. technique to help you achieve any change or improvement you
  19. desire in your life.

  21. This program installs itself as an extension of the MS-DOS
  22. operating system.  Once installed, the messages of your choosing
  23. will be flashed on the computer's screen at a random position
  24. up to twice per second.  Both monochrome and CGA screens are
  25. supported.  The message will be displayed for only one raster
  26. scan of your computer monitor.  However, most monitors used with
  27. PC computers use long persistence phosphors on the screen
  28. increasing the time the message is displayed per flash. Because
  29. of this physical limitation, you will notice a definite flash
  30. when the message is displayed, yet it is very difficult to
  31. consciously read the message.

  33. Stephen Williamson is director of the Institute for Bio-Acoustics
  34. Research in Eugene, Oregon.  After using SUBLIM, he wrote that
  35. the noticeably flashing messages are what he termed "preconscious."
  36. A subliminal is totally unknown to the viewer.  In contrast, a
  37. preconscious suggestion is marginally perceivable.  His research
  38. suggests preconscious conditioning may promise greater effectiveness
  39. than subliminals.  He endorsed SUBLIM saying its preconscious
  40. display "is more powerful than old style subliminal messages which
  41. were totally buried."

  43. To use the program, edit the file SUBLIM.DAT with a text editor.
  44. Put one subliminal message per line.  Use helpful messages like
  45. "I like to exercise" or "I relax".  Then run the SUBLIM.COM
  46. program.  The program will read the file SUBLIM.DAT and start
  47. flashing the messages on your screen.  After running the program,
  48. you are returned to the MS-DOS command prompt.  The shareware
  49. version of the program supports up to three subliminal messages at
  50. a time.

  52. In addition to your three messages, the shareware version of the
  53. program will also mix in several subliminal messages from the
  54. author.  These additional messages are designed to encourage users
  55. to register shareware programs.  These messages are:

  57.         I am honest.
  58.         I support shareware authors.
  59.         I pay for the software I use.
  60.  
  61. Registered users will receive a copy of the program without these
  62. additional messages.  WARNING: Continued use of an unregistered
  63. copy of this program will cause you to want to register.

  65. With version 2.0 of the program, you can control the flash rate
  66. of the messages.  Follow the SUBLIM command with a number from
  67. 9 to 255.  A higher number results in a slower flash rate.  If
  68. you do not specify a number, 9 will be used.  Here is an example:

  72. Almost all programs will run with SUBLIM.COM except for modem or
  73. data communications programs which will lose characters.  Before
  74. running these programs, stop the subliminal messages by rebooting
  75. the computer.

  77. Update Information:  This is version 2.1.  It fixes a bug in version
  78. 2.0 which affected running the Lotus 1-2-3 spreadsheet program.
